NSL 2008 Projects

Send your project info and pictures to Roy Green.

Gary Dahlke

Gary will be flying his "standard" 3 inch dia. Quantum Leap staging a big "I" to a small "I". The 4 inch Quantum Leap is down for repairs, but he will fly the 6 inch QL single stage on the new Aerotech M2030 Green.

Mark Canepa

Mark will be flying his Nike Smoke on an M1315.

It is a 10" diameter rocket - it weighs about 65 lbs.

David Smith

This year, I am honored to perform the M-motor fight demonstration for the students taking part in the Savannah Science Seminar. The half-scaled Standard Arm will be flying on an AMW M2200 Skidmark to an altitude of 7000 feet.

Burl Finkelstein -- Launch Director

If I have time to fly these are some of the projects I will bring:
The R2D2 flying on a J800 or K1100
The scaled up Astron Space Man. It will fly on a J 415.
10 inch diameter V2 Cow rocket "Eat more motor" on a M1600 Redline. This is my "must fly project.

Here is a photo of my new COSMOSTRATOR from the sci-fi favorite First Spaceship on Venus (1966)

The Cosmostrator is famous enough to be featured in Peter Alway’s book. My Cosmostrator is designed to launch on a “G” and three “D” in the outer pods. The fins are 2” of balsa, reinforced with carbon fiber rods embedded in their skin to give strength on landing.

The launch at NSL will be a virgin wild launch. I have devised a special launch system to allow for the composite ignition to occur and then fire the black powder “Ds.”

Blaine and Abbie Hillman

Here is our scratch built “Red Headed Woodpecker”. This is our 38mm project for NSL 2008. It will be making its maiden voyage at the NSL. It will fly on an I-300. It is 80” tall and 3” in diameter. This was built with my daughter Abbie.

Dale Herman

Here is a picture of my 3” X 102-1/2” Titania rocket which will be flying on a Contrail K555 Hybrid motor. It flew it’s maiden flight at Orangeburg in May this year for a successful level 2 certification flight. This rocket is entirely scratch built.

Christine Hillman

This is a picture of me with my project for the night launch at NSL 2008. It is 64” tall, 4” diameter, 29mm motor mount and weighs 44 oz. with the motor. It has a 32” clear payload section to house the lights for the night flight. It flew successfully on a G-71R this past weekend in Three Oaks Michigan. I know it is not as cool as some of the projects on the “project page” but I think it is pretty neat for a night rocket. I am looking forward to seeing the other night projects.

Let's do some Crazy Jim Drag Racing !!!!#$@%

It's big, it's bad, it's bananas......The banana rocket has been re-built and the "Gone Bananas Again" will fly at NSL on a M-2200 skid. Anyone want to Drag Race?
7.5" carbon fiber
11ft 50 lbs...
2 RRC2 altimeters
Projected altitude 7,000ft

Also the Tiger Terror will be prowling the staging area looking for game.
Scratch built
12ft Ultimate Endeavor
all glass and g-10
42lbs
same altimeters
98mm

Last but certainly not least. My 4in performance hobbies scratch built called Thorazine [cause I can't spell Placidyl] -- 7ft, 54mm, 11lbs. -- will have the "green" light, to also take on any one having a Mad Dog, Arrow, Competitor4, Talon, or similar size rocket. It started life as an Arrow, before I forgot to arm the altimeter and made an unwanted fence post out of it. Will take challengers on any AT or AMW motor that won't break the waiver.

Soooooo.....The Gauntlet has been thrown for all of you not faint of heart. I have plenty of copper-thermite, and I will supply your igniters for instant on ignition. How's about it. Any takers? Crazy Jim
